Designer Software helped the start-up Tegic Communications take its assistive technology concept to commercial reality – the T9® Text Input system for mobile phones and hand-held computers.
Michael worked with the start-up founders to design and develop early T9 prototypes, ported a demonstration version to the PalmPilot, and led the team of contractors that developed the first commercial product.
Michael's inventions and collaborations also laid the foundation for Tegic’s next generation of predictive text systems, XT9® Smart Input.
After Tegic was acquired by Nuance Communications, Designer Software supplied and led contract user researchers working with Nuance's R&D team to refine and validate next-generation Natural User Interface systems and intelligent search for mobile devices.
Michael continued with invention development and patent filing of Tegic's IP portfolio for Nuance, in collaboration with its engineering staff and legal counsel, further increasing the value of the company's IP assets. And, serving as technical expert, he supported both strategic and defensive patent litigation in US and international patent courts, resulting in successful outcomes for Tegic/Nuance and its licensees.
